The Chicago-area FBO made its debut as a top-rated FBO in our 2011 survey, taking the top spot. It reclaimed the highest score this year, led by a 9.8 rating for its upscale facilities (one of two locations with the highest individual category score in this year’s survey) as well as the highest score for passenger amenities. The privately owned company saw a good year in 2012, reporting better-than-20-percent growth at an airport that FBO operations manager Randy Fank describes as a diamond-in-the-rough for aircraft heading to the Windy City. “We have more and more new customers coming through every week, and that’s just going to continue as we let people know there is another option out here,” he told AIN

The FBO provides aircraft charter and management services and has one of the country’s biggest avionics shops. Indeed, the JA in its name stands for Joliet Avionics, harkening back to the company’s roots at DuPage Airport. Recently the FBO received FAA Type IV certification for its maintenance facility as it turns its attention to catering to larger business jets. Last summer it opened an interiors shop and since then has installed cabins on nearly 20 aircraft up to a Bombardier Challenger 604. In describing his FBO’s success, Fank summed it up thus: “It’s not

hard. Take care of the guy in the back of the airplane, get him on his way so you’ve actually accomplished what the pilots want done, then take care of the pilots.” (Source: AIN)

According to AOPA a flying club is an exclusive organization of pilots and aircraft formed to make flying more affordable for its members and form a bastion of camaraderie.

How does a flying club work?

There is no simple answer to this question. Of 130 clubs the author surveyed (sampled from 650 nationally) each one differed from the last in structure and operation. Most clubs are a non-profit organization with a combination of equity and non-equity members and, on average, 11-15 members per aircraft.

Position Purpose:

J. A. Air Center is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Chief Inspector for our growing Part 145 Class IV Repair Station. The Chief Inspector reports to the Maintenance Sales Director and is responsible for all Quality Control disciplines for maintenance, interior and avionics departments.  This includes directing, planning and laying out the details of inspection standards, methods and procedures used by the Repair Station in complying with all applicable FAA Regulations, manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations; ensures that all inspections are properly performed and that the proper inspection records, reports and forms used by the repair station are properly executed prior to the release of the aircraft for return to service.

Duties include but are not limited to ensuring the maintenance, interior and avionics departments performs all assigned functions in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.

Responsible for final airworthiness decisions for aircraft.

Responsible to ensure aircraft, maintenance employees, shop, paperwork and procedures are in compliance with all FAA and EASA regulations.

Coordinate and maintain records for periodic checks of all inspection tools and the calibration of precision test equipment used by the Repair Station.

Ensure company manuals (FAA and Manufacturer), FAA specifications, type certificate data sheets and Airworthiness Directives are up to date.

Responsible for ascertaining that maintenance records are properly maintained and retrievable.

Assist with and oversee completion of all aircraft related maintenance paperwork.

Oversee maintenance department Records Researcher in the completion of paperwork and related duties.

Accomplish the final acceptance of all incoming material, including new parts, supplies and the airworthiness of articles on which work has been performed outside the Repair Station by contract.

• Trip Ready Aircraft Cleaning & Detail
  Our on demand trip ready service will ensure that your aircraft is looking great for the next flight. All exterior surfaces are wiped down and lightly cleaned. The interior is vacuumed, trash removed, all surfaces including seating are wiped down, lav and galley cleaned and sanitized, interior items are organized and the cabin entry is detailed.

• Wet Wash
  Our wet washing technique insures that the entire exterior of the aircraft is completely clean and free of debris. The aircraft is dry and spot free when complete. Service recommended for aircraft that have been exposed to harsh or corrosive conditions, like saltwater areas.
• Dry Wash
  Our environmentally friendly technique completely cleans the entire exterior of the aircraft, without water, while leaving a beautiful shine. Our most popular wash technique due to most airport environmental restrictions.
• Exterior Wax
  Regular exterior wax applications will not only keep you aircraft looking great and protect your paint, but it will also extend the life of the paint greatly. All of our waxes are aircraft approved and silicone free.
• Exterior Paint Rejuvenation (Machine Buff and Polish)
  Machine polishing is recommended for paint that is oxidized or faded. This restores and seals the paint for protection and helps to reduce parasitic drag. Once the aircraft is machined buffed we then hand polish the aircraft to bring the high gloss finish back to the paint. Even very old paint can usually be brought back to looking like new. A great service and alternative to having the aircraft painted.
• Brightwork Metal Polishing
  Polishing Brightwork is an art that few have mastered. One of our specialties is our metal polishing process. David specializes in the entire Garmin product line specifically the G1000 on the King Air series of aircraft.  His extensive background also includes experience with Universal Avionics, AirCell, Rockwell Collins, and Honeywell product lines.
